Its 'old school', comfort food
The best American grill I have ever been to. The vintage feeling makes me feel I was back in time. The Tbone steak was very delicious with potato soup , Spanish rice , veggies. Their homemade banana bread is very delicious. I am going there next weekend again to taste their steak.
Best place for the true diner experience! Wonderful music & service. Excellent comfort food. Handy parking.
We stumbled across this place a few years back and it captured us right away. Even though we’re living in DTLA, this is still our Sunday morning staple. Consistently great service, awesome & well priced food, and a good dose of nostalgia... what’s not to like! We love what you’re doing Rod’s, keep it up! :)
A classic. Entertained by our waitress. Great prices.
The food was pretty good though the pancakes were a bit tough. Great coffee and the service was excellent. When I'm down this way again will definitely return.
Really like this old style diner , really good food , service and prices are good !!!You have to try it at least once ....
I love it here. Good food, friendly people, Route 66 USA
This place is a charmer. You'll instantly feel like you've gone back to a bygone era (in the good way!). The interior is 100% mid-century deco, and with the exception of a microwave behind the counter, nothing would look out of place to a time traveler. Food is excellent with lots of traditional Americana and a great breakfast selection. My server was just lovely and added to the throwback feel eating here. 10/10, do yourself a favor and check it out.
Changing this to a five star review. After coming back may times now, the customer service is always excellent. This place has an old school atmosphere that reminds me of being a kid again. They have excellent omelets and great kids breakfast. The half order of Fried Chicken is heavenly as well as the Roast Turkey dinner. My kids love coming here for the all day breakfast.
Eggs and bacon were good but one order of wheat toast was burnt and the hashbrowns were barely cooked..steamed rather then fried!
outstanding restruant get American fresh made food. so awesome place. old fashion great service. well worth the money.
Grilled food was one of my favorite. The best American grill I have ever been to. They have the best and tasty food they have here.
Found this gem online while doing a road trip. This place is a little before my time, but it's a time warp with the vintage look and music. Good food and great service!
It has been around since the fifties. I had turkey salad sandwich on raisin bread. It was quite good.
Friendly coffee shop with large portions. I recommend there country fried steak.
Great food, good service, good prices...
Really enjoyed the food- more like home cooked meals!
We went for a hike nearby and decided to stop by and try this place out. Service was fast and attentive, nice ambiance with the agua green booths and stools. Food was brought out quickly and tasted fresh and delicious, mind you not totally the best diner food but still delicious.. especially after a long hike. If you're into that classic diner experience than this is the place for you.
The food was average but the service was great!!!
Love this place. Good vibe with 50s diner music, with excellent diner food and generous portions. The onion rings are difficult to pass up and the burgers are fit for a quarterback.
Incredible chef. Food is amazing not greasy and the tomato slices were superb. Slight odor of BO where I was sitting... I moved, everything was great after that
If you're after an old school diner experience, this is the right place. Seating, ordering and food is prompt. Staff is great. The decor is a fun and authentic throwback to the 60's. The downside? The food isn't anything to write home about. It's average and that's a shame. Great spot for breakfast or brunch though.
Nice place. This was actually my 2nd time here. Both times I ordered the house burger. And both times I was like wow! What a monster. But the burger wasn't the same as the first time. Overall the staff were nice, and was added to one of my favorite places.
This is a place that Johnny Rocket's should buy out. It's an old school diner, staff is super friendly, and that's the only reason I'm not giving it 1 star. I had the Philly Cheese Steak with Fries, so greasy, thin patty of steak, yea, you heard me correctly, it was a patty topped with cheese. Food was arrived hot and that was great, fries were good, I can't complain about those, and the portion of the fries seemed a bit excessive; call that a pro, or a con, personally, I feel like it's places like these that make people obese. I feel the exact opposite of how one feels after you go to the gym. I regret going here. Food is okay, I just had 1 item, their breakfast looks better, if I was to go here again, I would get eggs and hash browns, one can't really mess that up, but that's not gonna happen. Good luck.
We were in town for an event and was looking for food around town. Almost didnt go into the diner because a friend said the outside didnt look very pleasing. BUT "dont judge a book by its cover," as it is one of the cutest diner I've been to. The colors inside were very pleasing. The waitress was extremely helpful and sweet. The food was terribly bad for you but very delicious meal. Wish I lived closer to visit again!
Nice diner great food friendly waitresses
Great food! Great people!
It's a nice old style diner. The walls have old pictures of Arcadia and the surrounding area that are neat to look at. The food is really good I usually come here for breakfast, the service is fast and friendly. I've tried the waffles, pancakes, breakfast burrito and especially like the hobo plate with potatoes, bacon, onion, with eggs scrambled in, love anything with potatoes in it. Very affordable.
Mediocre food. Burnt waffles and pancakes. Don't bother to ask for honey wheat because they will give you the regular white flour gummy pancakes. French fries are the frozen type. But when it comes time to pay, it becomes a nightmare. Either they don't know how to use their archaic machine or they need a new one. After trying two of my cards their micro chip reader didn't work. They made my other half drive to our bank 2 miles away while I had to stay as collateral. Note that we are not spring chickens and don't dress like rif-raf. Should have left when the place was empty when we arrived. Sometimes, an original old 1950's dinner is not enough. Place looks run down as well. Only nice tho g were the photographs. Don't waste your time.
Food was wonderful old fashion American basic. Julie the waitress was wonderful. Spoke to her awhile and she was interesting and friendly.
I sent my friends to this place with my warmest recommendations. I go to this restaurant often. This recommendation is always successful. The meals are flavorable and the crew is welcoming and cooperative. Every time we visit this place we enjoy a pleasing evening. warmly recommended.
The food is good and the service too.
This is an original vintage diner from the 50's. Eating here was very pleasant. The menu includes all American foods and the staff is just very hospitable. I ordered a burger with onion rings, don't forget to get a shake! The food was great!
Homemade taste and atmosphere. The staff chat with customers at the counter seats who seem like regulars there. One of last real, nostalgic cafes left in Arcadia. The food is well prepared and to order by a short order cook, not a fast food teenager assembling something together. Their burgers are delicious and just right. They also serve breakfast all day, which is until 4pm when they close.
Great food and service. Prices are reasonable.
Always glad to rods food ... The hamburger is that good
Manny's burger is huge ! It could have feed both me and my brother! And it taste pretty good too! The new York steak and shrimp was ok, nothing special
Food was ok, service was slow, had to ask for coffee refills, bacon was cold had to send it back, like tire retro look inside and all the old historical pictures, will give it another try next time I'm driving thru
Great food and service!
Called to place phone order. Maria answered and acted like she as at her own home and I was a telemarketer; she was totally annoyed. She said , “can I place you on hold?’, and before I could answer, she pushed hold. I decided to go in instead. She acted just as annoyed and made me feel like I was in the wrong place and completely unwelcome. Just like when a stranger wanders into a small town cafe in the movies. So I don’t have any idea how this meal will taste. At this point it doesn’t really matter because she made it obvious to me that this is not the spot to go if you want to be treated well. That’s Maria.
Great comfort food, great service
Classic old school dinner complete with the early bird special crowd very awesome. Portions we're good and price was fair for dinner food. Ham and cheese omelette was very tasty. They could do a bit better with the a/c and sodas we're a bit off but other then that everything was good. Love the old school music. Will go back for sure.
Great and fast service. Yummy food
Tasty food, old time diner. I had the turkey salad special.
My friend and I always meet at Rod's for breakfast because it is never real busy and our waitresses are great. But we're not going back again. The man (owner?) who handled the cash register when we were there on 8/8/2019 was quite rude when we complained (politely) about something pretty simple. So, we're trying a new place in Monrovia. Lots of good restaurants out there and I'm betting they have the sense to treat customers with respect.
One of the great things about Rod's, is that you're not necessarily locked into the menu. If you don't see, among the terriffic selections on the menu, exactly what you're looking for, you can usually ask the friendly wait-staff for special orders, if it's not a rush hour, and they will do their absolute best to meet your request. This evening, I was looking for something light and tasty. Not seeing what I had a real taste for, I asked for a seasoned cooked burger patty, some grilled onions, two slices of buttered toast, and voila´ - a toasted hamburger sandwich. A side of fries, and I was totally happy. Little things like this really put Rod's Grill at the top of my go-to list.
Nice clean restaurant with 1960 type decor. Pancakes are really good. The short stack is enough to fill you up.
It was ok.
Great Food and even better service.Highly reccomend this place.
Laid-back vibe since 1967 with 50s music playing, attentive service, daily specials, quality fresh ingredients & top cleanliness rating from Health Dept,-varies from young people to seniors & in between, locals, visitors Nice view of park across the street if eating outdoors. Generous portions. Ask for the homemade tapioca, my favorite. Reasonable prices.
